RE: before you hit the road
here is is year to year based on the month that you bought it.
Ours came in and the trailer is being having some work done. SO I put it in the truck.
RE: Thinking about Camping full time?? anybody else??
I haven't read all the posts.
We had friends that did this for two years. They sold their home and most of the furniture, except for what had been handed through the family. Placed it all into storage. Then bought one of those huge trailers that have the semi truck that pulls it. They had a great time and went to every state.
I also homeschool, and we kinda of do this. We have a campground membership that was given to us, by friends that had to retire from camping. It is about 30 miles from the house. We camp there usually starting in March, for 2 weeks. April for 3 weeks. Then May for a couple of weeks, then skip it in the summer and go other places then in the fall we camp there off and on for 1-2 weeks, til mid November.
As to sleeping space...we have a Crossroads Sunset Trail Bunkhouse model. It has a room in the back with 4 beds. So each kid has their own bed.
As for homeschooling..you would not need to bring any history books. You can live US History and have the wonderful experience of actually seeing the places. How exciting that would be.
I think the one think I would do to lessen the some of the books is look at programs that are online.
THere is this neat program online that is called Time 4 Learning. They go up through 8th grade. Although you would need a printer, unless you took the time to print out the resource sheets ahead of time. But you could just get a smaller printer.
I have to read through the messages when I have more time and see what all has been suggested so I do not repeat anything.
I would love to do this.
RE: Anyone camp without satellite TV
We don't and I doubt we will anytime in the near future.
We use the antenna, but I now wonder if that will work when they make the switch to all digital.
We do take a few good movies and that is what we will watch, to wind the evening down. Plus some for our special needs daughter, she needs the down time and short little videos, like Veggie Tales and such, really help calm her down, after a long day.
RE: 6 Gallon water heater, Never again
We only ran out once. That was last year, when we were at a campground on the beach and the showers were open to public not just the campers, plus they cost money. We learned that we had to do showers in shifts. We are talking 6 people, we would do the sea showers routine. It was easy as we could just turn it off at the shower head. But even then, we were able to get 2 done and 1/2 another one, the water would run out on the 3rd person. So we would just turn on both the propane/electric and put about 30 minutes between the sets of 2 showers. Then we split the day...The DW and two youngest kids would shower at night,I and the 2 older kids would shower in the AM.
As to dishes..we never run out there, as I can't just run the hot water alone, it is 140. I agree with the others about checking the temp level.
RE: Traveling with bunnies?
DO NOT LET DD13 SEE THIS POST>>>Repeat do not let her see it...
We have 4 bunnies and they have never gone camping.
I would be too worried about losing them.
I think it is possible, but I would never leave them outside without supervision when camping. They also can dig quite well and could dig their way out of a cage without a bottom.
I would recommend work on lease training them. That way you could take them our for a little stroll around the site.
Not all bunnies will travel well either, I would think that they could get quite nervous if they are in the back of a bouncy trailer.
AS for having someone care for them when you are gone. It is quite easy. Ours are outdoor bunnies. So someone just comes by 2-3 days, refills their water and food dishes. If we are just gone over the weekend, we just make sure everything is topped off, toss in some hay and straw and off we go.
RE: Glacier National Park, MT
Thanks for all the recommendations.
We checked all the NP campgrounds and according to the websites, we won't fit into any of them, we knew when we bought our trailer, that we would have that issue and have to go to private campgrounds.
It will be after June 21st when we go. July and August are out for big trips this year. Our two boys have Boy Scout Summer camp, the middle of June (sorry that should have said JULY) and this is the first year for the youngest boy and he is so excited. Our older son is going to Philmont Scout camp in August.
So that kinda left us with June for our big trip.
Our youngest is special needs and we really needed the extra space.
I did read last night about the Going to Sun road.
We have just started researching and I wanted to ask her first to get some ideas and personal recommendations, as we can say that at times websites don't always tell the truth about a campground. We learned that lesson last summer when we went to Southern California.
Oh and I should say I am not new...I have been here before, but for some reason, I could not get logged in, even once my user name and password was sent.
My other usernamd was jemek.
Glacier National Park, MT
This is where we have decided to take our big trip next summer. We plan on going in June and will be there in the middle of the week, I am sure it is too late to get weekends there.
We have a 31' TT.
Any recommendations for campgrounds, we have 4 children ages 9-17.
